About Me
Hello! My name is Sharon Lawrence, and I am a general surgeon in the NJ area. I have broad interests in hernia repair, surgical outcomes research, racial disparities in surgical care, and global health. I started this blog to have a place to develop and refine my different interests.
I am currently a research fellow at Duke University Health System, completing a one-year fellowship in pancreas cancer outcomes and translational research. Prior to that, I completed General Surgery residency at RWJMS in New Brunswick, NJ. My medical degree is from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and I have a BS in Biology from MIT.
What else can I tell you? I am from the Bronx originally, where I was raised by my Caribbean parents to have a strong work ethic and focus on academics. My upbringing plays a great role in my current interests. I hope to participate in mission trips in the future, and plan to pivot my research focus to outcomes affected by socioeconomic and racial disparities.
Finally, I should let you know that I am very passionate about mentoring. I would not be where I am today without the help of those who went before me. So if you are a premed, med student, or resident looking for some guidance, feel free to contact me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you!
